Cagliostro is busy looking bored when Horatio approaches her, but she perks up at his approach.

"Yeah, sure. What's up, boss?"

"I need some information, and according to the apartment roster, you and Saint-Germain are the people I'd do best getting it from." He paused, considering explaining why he'd come to her first, then realized it would probably prove self-explanatory.

"I signed up for the secret gift exchange and have to buy something for a Carol Malus Dienheim. No idea who she is, but if you have any suggestions I'm all ears."

Cagliostro blinked. And then...then she grinned. She grinned the most diabolical, insidious grin possible.

"Little Carol?! Oh I can help you, sure!!" Cagliostro exclaimed. "Why, you should get her a stuffed animal! A really big one! One of those person sized ones, in fact! She love love loooooooves those things!"

She has far too much power right now.

He knew that kind of grin when he saw it, but then again ... he wasn't going to rain on Cagliostro's parade, either. They were friends, and what were friends for?

"This I can do," he said, matching her smile. "Any particular favorite animal or color?"

"Teddie bears!" Cagliostro replied gleefully. "The pinker and more huggable the better!"

[youngtimer]

"Massive fluffy pink teddy bears, got it." He laughs, definitely glad that they were on the same level when it came to gift giving. It had been a long time since he'd messed with someone in that way, and he'd forgotten just how fun it was.

When, he wondered, had he gotten too damn busy for fun? Maybe once the holiday was over, he'd reevaluate his priorities.

"Am I to assume that any tulle, satin bows, or glitter would also be acceptable?"

"Of course!" she announced. "The shinier the better, honestly! She looooves standing out!"

Horatio chuckled, seeing exactly what sort of person Carol Malus Danheim probably was: a complete stick in the mud. "Okay, noe I've just gotta ask ... how the hell did you two meet?"

[alchefist]

How did we meet? Hm...how best to put this...

[ She puts her thinking face on for the moment. ]

...The two of us used to be coworkers!

Oh - so were you alchemists together, then? With Saint-G? [he catches himself, and decides not to assume completely] Or was it ... before all of that?

No, it was after. And I wouldn't say we were alchemist's together, just that she worked for the Illuminati.

So I'm guessing you weren't exactly best friends. Handler and I were like that when we first arrived, too.

Heh. Well, that's what happens when you take the Illuminati's funds and run, I suppose!

But we're super duper best roommates now, I assure you!

Ha, holy shit. See, that was me and the Commission, but I just blew up all their equipment and ran, I didn't steal anything.

Well, I never really had anything against her. Our dear director may have, but for me it was all just something she did to the organization, you know?

That's pretty big-picture of you. I don't think I could have thought like that about things, before I got here. I was that one guy who's pissed off at everyone for some reason or another, even if I didn't always act like it.

Eh, not really big picture. My loyalties were always to Saint-Germain, you know? What was really big picture was using her in our plans~!

That doesn't surprise me: the loyalty bit, I mean. ... But now you've got me curious about this plan... But am I keeping you from anything?

[he glances around the casino to see if anyone's waiting at a table for her to run a game]

Oh, you're not keeping me! It's a rather slow day! Anyhow, I'm sure Saint-Germain could tell you far better than I, but...

...well, frankly, what we wanted to attain was the power of the gods. We used her research into the world's leylines, which we needed to tap into in order to attain it.

Those things are real where you are, huh? I guess that's not too surprising. What was it that let her use them when you and Saint-G couldn't? You both seem pretty powerful to me.

Oh, Carol never gained the divine power. She used the leylines to try and "dissect the world", as she put it.
